More than an entertainment venue.
The Playhouse was the first summer stock theater to open in Indiana after World War II, built on a partnership between a local resident and Indiana University's theater director. That root — developing young performers and tapping local talent — still shows in the season.
Today the 425-seat theater is owned and operated by Brown County Playhouse Management, Inc., and it remains a cultural and community icon for Brown County.
